The Antenna SIG meetings are open to all PCARS members and guests. All ham radio operators or anyone interested in Amateur Radio are also welcome to attend. We will be discussing all aspects of antenna design, construction, test equipment, and experimentation. Everyone is welcome to join the discussion, and talk about their antenna related projects with the group.

Here’s an early bird special. It’s not too early to plan to attend our DX/Contesting Special Interest Group meeting that will be held Oct. 22 at 7PM at our World Famous Club Site. Wow, that’s next week already!

Among our topics of discussion will be the CA QSOP; the AZ QSOP; what we are doing in regards to wire antennas for the club; and looking at the contest schedule for 2025. As in previous years, this will be the last DX/Test SIG for the year. So if you want your 2 cents worth involved, please come out and join us.

As always, the meeting will be available on ZOOM. So I hope to see a lot of members either in person or on ZOOM.

Hi PCARS members!

Would you like to expand your skillset? Well, on November 9th, we are hosting another group build session.

This one will cover basic soldering/desoldering techniques. No, I’m not going to demonstrate hot air rework stations, but rather the basic soldering techniques we’re all most likely to run into in our Ham Radio lives.

From cleaning & tinning the tip to practicing proper soldering techniques and working with circuit boards, you’ll learn how to handle a soldering iron.

Besides learning a new skill, you’ll come away from the morning with a fun project that you’ve built. For this session, we’ll be building a Two-tone European style siren. This will be just the thing to annoy the loved ones in your life!

Are you or your kids studying for the BSA Electronics Merit badge? Knowing how to solder/desolder is a part of the requirements.

The next PCARS Flex Net will be held tonight, Wednesday October 9th at 8:00 PM. This month’s net will be a Digital-Only net using RTTY 45.45 baud 170 Hz shift, on 10 meters. Tune your transceiver’s dial frequency to 28.110 MHz USB (yes, USB for this net) and center the RTTY cursors at 1,500 Hz on the waterfall.

As this is a digital-only net, we will be using prosigns and Q signals to streamline net operations.
