Inputs Needed For The October Radiogram

It’s time again to collect Inputs for the upcoming edition of The Radiogram!

Have you been working on a project? Made some exciting new contacts? Tried something new? Made a change to your shack? Your fellow PCARS members want to hear about it! Share what you’re enjoying in The Greatest Hobby On Earth.

If you’ve never contributed to The Radiogram or if it’s been a while, now is a great time to share something with the club.

Please send your inputs either in a plain old text with full size pictures to kc8jc@portcars.org by Thursday, September 26th.

73!

Enigma Reloaded

ENIGMA RELOADED

Eight Edition – 2024

from September, 27th to October, 5th

The main goal of the Enigma Event is to promote as much radio amateur activity as possible all over the world, celebrating the history of the Enigma cipher machine and its crucial role in the outcome of World War II, and spreading the knowledge of those key people who contributed to its decryption.

The eighth edition of “Enigma Reloaded” event will take place in two steps :

  • From September, 27th to October, 04th, Italian and foreign Amateur radio stations registered as “Activator stations” will ensure the activation of their radio stations in order to allow the participants to get their scores for the “Enigma Award” Contest.
  • On October, 5th, the final event’s day, the Activator Stations will exchange predefined CW messages previously encrypted by a real or emulated Enigma machine.

All details and rules are available on the official website : www.enigma-reloaded.it (english version: http://www.enigma-reloaded.it/index_eng.html )

Project made possible by:

A.R.I. – Italian Amateur Radio Association – Radio Club of Fidenza, PR – ITALY

“Rover Joe” Museum – Fidenza (PR, Italy)

A.R.M.I. – Marine Italian Amateur Radio Association

ODOT tower at PCARS ClubSite was removed

The old ODOT tower was removed on September 19, 2024.

Tower

It took about 8 hours for Tri-County Tower to completely remove the tower. Two sections at a time were removed and moved to an area with the crane where another crew cut the tower into smaller chunks to fit in a dumpster. Did not take long to fill the dumpster. They had to order another dumpster to complete the job. The weather was perfect. Sunny and clear.

Washington State Salmon Run – Sept. 21-22

PCARS Contesters:

Here is another reminder: This weekend, on Sep 21-22, K8BF will be put on the air to participate in the Washington State Salmon Run. This is the name of their State QSO Party. The event runs from 1600UTC on Saturday to 0700UTC (Noon until 3AM) on Sunday and then there is a break. The contest then continues from 1600UTC on Sunday until it finishes at 2400UTC (Noon until 8PM) Sunday evening. So this is a 23 hr contest.

It is a CW/Phone only contest. Sorry, no FT8 or any digital at all.

We will be entering in the “Unlimited” category. It’s the one that allows Multi op/Multi transmitter entries. I would like to see a couple of CW ops, in addition to our regular phone ops, join us so that we can make a very good showing in this contest. Please let me know if you are going to join us by emailing me at chuckw8pt@gmail.com.

We will be gathering, starting around 10am on Saturday to review the rules. Hope to see a lot of you at the club site for this event.

73 for now,

Chuck W8PT
PCARS Contest Coordinator
